Das Orchester Collegium Ennsegg wurde im Jahr 2007 auf Initiative des Geigers Christoph Bitzinger gegründet. Sitz des Orchestervereins ist das Schloss Ennsegg, Namensgeber und - durch das wunderbare Ambiente - ständige Quelle künstlerischer Inspiration.

Im Mittelpunkt steht die Pflege der klassischen Orchesterliteratur vom Barock bis zur Moderne, ein Augenmerk gilt der Entdeckung unbekannter lokaler Musikerpersönlichkeiten.

Im Laufe der Jahre rief der Orchesterverein mehrere Konzertreihen ins Leben. So das traditionelle und alljährlich ausverkaufte Neujahrskonzert in der Stadthalle in Enns oder die Herbstkonzerte mit Meisterwerken unterschiedlichen Genres – von Joseph Haydns Schöpfung über Carl Orffs Carmina Burana bis hin zu Hollywood in Concert mit Highlights aus der Welt der Filmmusik. Daneben stehen bedeutende Einzelprojekte, wie die szenische Aufführung der Zauberflöte von W. A. Mozart oder das heuer stattfindende Konzert mit der 9. Symphonie von Ludwig van Beethoven.

Das Orchester musiziert mit wechselnden Dirigentenpersönlichkeiten und sucht den künstlerischen Austausch mit regionalen und überregionalen Klangkörpern, unter ihnen die St. Florianer Sängerknaben oder heimische Chöre.

Als Botschafter der Musik wirkt das Orchester auch im Ausland, etwa auf Konzertreisen nach Indien auf Initiative von Gerald Wirth, dem künstlerischen Leiter der Wiener Sängerknaben. Auf der diesjährigen Tournee spielt das Orchester die Weltpremiere von Franz Schuberts Oper Shacuntala, fertiggestellt und arrangiert von Gerald Wirth.

The Orchestra Collegium Ennsegg was founded by the violinist Christoph Bitzinger in 2007 and is based at the Castle Ennsegg.  The Castle not only provides the Orchestra with its name but its wonderful ambient is a source of artistic inspiration as well.  

The musical focus is on classical symphonic literature ranging from Baroque to Modern works.  Particular attention is paid to bringing the music of little or unknown local composers to the concert hall.  Over the years, the Orchestra has produced a number of concert series.  The now traditional and annually sold out New Year´s Concert, which takes place in the Stadthall, Enns, is the most well known.  The autumn concert series is based on Masterpieces chosen from different genres ranging from Joseph Hayden´s “The Creation” to Carl Orff´s “Carmina Burana” and further to the “Hollywood in Concert” series featuring highlights from the world of film music.  In addition, there are major single projects, including a staged performance of Mozart´s “The Magic Flute” or this year´s production of Ludwig van Beethoven´s “Symphony Nr. 9”.  

The orchestra performs under different invited conductors and frequently cooperates with other musical bodies, including the St. Florian Boys' Choir and local choirs.  As musical Ambassador the Orchestra is also active abroad, for instance a concert trip to India on the initiative of Gerald Wirth, Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir.  This year's tour will feature the world premiere of Franz Schubert's opera “Shacuntala” as completed and arranged by Gerald Wirth.
